My family calls this spot "Madelyn's Overlook" although I don't think it actually has an official name. On my granddaughter Madelyn's seventh birthday, she wanted to go to the mountains for a picnic, and this is the spot she chose. Since we live only an hour from the Great Smokies in Tennessee, we look for any excuse to spend the day there! It wasn't the food that made the day for Madelyn, though, but rather running, arms outstretched down the hill just off the parking lot over and over again and never tiring of the natural beauty. As my husband and I watched her youthful exuberance and energy, we realized that in this age of cell phones and ipads, for some children nature is still the best pasttime. It stands in our memories as a great day, and now every time we come by this spot, we reference it as Madelyn's Overlook!
