Description
Montmartre is a large hill in Paris's 18th arrondissement. It is 130 meters high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank in the northern section of the city. Montmartre is primarily known for its artistic history, the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit, and as a nightclub district. The other church on the hill, Saint Pierre de Montmartre, built in 1147, was the church of the prestigious Montmartre Abbey. It was definitely worth an evening visit for me because the view of Paris at sunset is phenomenal from this vantage point. This image was taken as we walked through the eclectic neighborhood to reach the highest point of the hill, just in front of the Basilica. Charming outdoor cafes and shops line the streets, and the architecture features many of these typically Parisian balconies with flower boxes and hanging baskets, adding to the overall ambiance of Montemarte. My original photograph has been digitally enhanced to achieve a painterly presentation.
