Description
Originally founded as a fortress for the Roman empire in the 1st century AD, Mainz,Germany isn't lacking for historical significance. Located along the Rhine River, this vibrant city boasts a population of approximately 225,000 people and is famous for being the home of Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press in the early 1450's. The old town area is particularly picturesque with its colorful half timber homes with decoratively painted designs. It had a very "storybook or fairy tale" feel for me. On the day this photograph was taken, the main square was hosting market days with dozens of vendors set up in the shadow of the famous Mainz Cathedral, and I loved it!
