Description
What's not to like about Siena, Italy? The largest city in the Tuscany region dates back to medieval times as a walled fortress city. Piazza del Campo, the city's main square and gathering place, has many shops, restaurants, cafes, and boasts a beautiful bell/clock tower that is part of the Palazzo Publico, the main building in the square. The tower is the second tallest medieval tower in Italy and was contructed between 1325 and 1344. Its walls are 3 meters thick on each side, and the top of the tower can be reached by climbing the 332 where those whose endure may enjoy a great view of the city. Piazza del Campo hosts the world famous horse race, The Palio, twice a year and spectators come from all over the world to attend.
