Description
Most of the time when you see a stream in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, it's a swift flowing, babbling waterway that's moving down the mountain. This special place in Cades Cove is a nice exception to that general rule. As much as I love to sit by the moving mountain streams and enjoy the sounds and splashes on a hot, summer day, this little spot located almost half way through the Cove is a perfect place to follow the little trail along the creek and look for wildflowers on a pleasant day in spring. That's exactly what I was doing when I took this image, and I loved the verdant greens, the reflections in the water, and the mottled light coming through the trees. It wasn't until I got home later that night and was telling my husband about this little adventure below the bridge that I had misgivings. His first response was "Weren't you scared of snakes?" Not at all what I wanted to hear because I am terrified of snakes and there are a lot of them in this area. In my excitement with the beauty of the moment, I hadn't given any thought to snakes. Now I'm afraid that I will never take this walk again, unless it's in the dead of winter, because my mind will be so focused on looking for snakes that I won't enjoy it. Why did he need to say that? :)
