Description
While on a sunset cruise along the Chobe River in Botswana, we saw many, many elephants. They travel mostly in family groups or multiple family groups, but this huge, lone male seemed to be enjoying his solitary life as he consumed some of the grass along the river bank. It was so interesting to watch him eat because he would grab a large amount of grass with his trunk and then shake it vigorously side to side before putting it in his mouth. Our guide told us that he was shaking the dust and bugs off the grass, actually cleaning his food before eating. Unfazed by a boat full of people staring and taking pictures, he carried on and never even looked our way even though we were very close to him. Although I loved the color version of this image, I also really liked the black and white because the elephant is such a great contrast to his much lighter environment.
