Description
On a recent trip to the Iberian peninsula that highlighted both Spain and Portugal, an afternoon adventure listed on our itinerary was a jaunt to Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory just off the southern coast of Spain. Gibraltar is only 2.7 square miles in area and is dominated by the 426 meter high limestone ridge known as the Rock of Gibraltar. Home to over 30,000 people, the island is also known for the "Barbarry Apes" or macaques, a species of wild Old World monkeys that live there. Needless to say, it was an interesting place to visit, especially fun was the interaction we had with the macaques and the lunch of genuinely British fish and chips! This image is of the Trinity Lighthouse that is located on the southern side of the tiny island, which is only 12 miles from the northern coast of the continent of Africa.
