Description
Because I live just an hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, I have numerous opportunities to photograph black bears all year round. As I was anticipating my trip to Montana, I was hopeful that I'd see at least one grizzly and one moose, but had high hopes for more. It was on our first night in Yellowstone on the first day of our trip that we happened upon this very handsome grizzly as we were on our way out of the park. He was amazingly close to the road, and I followed the example of other photographers and crouched on the far side of my car, ready to jump in if necessary, and managed to get several shots. As I looked at them later, I was smiling to myself when I saw this one where he was looking right at me and actually looks deceivingly friendly. I really liked both the black and white and sepia versions, perhaps more than the original color one.
