It was a wash out on the day that my husband and I set out to take the train from where we were staying in Montecatini to Pisa to see the famous leaning tower. We were at the very end of a few days in the Tuscan region of Italy, so there just wasn't an option of waiting until a more pleasant day. Until that day, I didn't realize that the tower is actually the camponile, or bell tower, of Pisa Cathedral. As it turned out, the day was wonderful, despite the rain! It wasn't at all crowded, and we were pleased with the photos we took while there and felt that the shiny streets and surfaces, as well as tourists with their colorful umbrellas, actually added a good effect to the images. After seeing the tower and surrounding cathedral and Baptistry, we found a wonderful, cozy cafe and enjoyed a cappuccino while drying out and warming up before getting back on the train.
