Description
About an hour's drive south from Charleston, about half way to Savannah, Hunting Island State Park offers a wonderful day excursion away from the city. Based on a tip from a couple of friends, my husband and I decided to check it out, and we were so happy that we did. While there, we discovered a wonderful "boneyard beach," just a half mile walk from the nature center. Until this trip, we had never even heard the term, but it was a good discovery that provided an opportunity for some lovely pictures. Trees that are right at the water's edge are killed over time by the saltwater tides. When they die, the tides continue their assault and eventually petrify the trees, leaving an eerie array of trees and stumps strewn along the shore. I loved the black and white version of this slow shutter image with the tide coming in and surrounding the boneyard trees.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
