Description
It was a January subzero morning in Grand Teton National Park, and I was out before sunup to capture a classic Teton sunrise as the early light hit the mountain range. As I was taking a series of sunrise images, I heard a rustle to my left and out of the corner of my eye noticed movement. When I looked over, a bull moose, covered with frost, was just standing up from his nighttime bed among the abundant sagebrush. I was thrilled to see him there and just turned my tripod in his direction to get some pictures as he began to eat his breakfast. Until my fingers felt like they might be victims of frostbite in the bitter cold, I enjoyed several minutes with my frosty moose. This turned out to be a favorite memory of the Tetons trip because it was such an unexpected encounter!
