Artist's Description
A few years ago, I never would have thought that I'd become a "bird nerd." I just didn't really understand how much fun it was to watch them until I began to take pictures and realized that there is an incredibly large variety of birds in our area. It take me long to understand, however, that bird photography can be challenging and somewhat daunting for a beginner photographer. They just don't sit still for very long! It's been a journey, and I now know names, calls, and even personalities of many, many of our local songbirds, waterfowl, and birds of prey. I think the cormorant is one of the more entertaining birds to watch with their erratic flapping and very quick movements. They frequently make me laugh out loud! This guy was spotted on the Clinch River at Melton Hill Dam in Tennessee, and in this image he looks like he's giving me a royal pose.

Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures! The Tennessee valley is my home, so I am surrounded by some of the most scenic areas of the United States with the added bonus of plentiful wildlife and birds...literally paradise for a photographer!
