Description
Certainly not the most attractive animal I've ever seen, but fascinating none the less. While on a trip to South Africa, we visited the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park north of Durban which is known for its efforts in rhinoceros conservation. Two types of rhinos may be seen in the park, white and black, but the black are much more rare and do not come out in the open very often. This is a white rhino, the bigger of the two types in the park, which can weigh as much as 5,000 pounds average size. We were just starting out on our safari early in the morning when we came upon this female and her baby who was nursing when we first spotted them along the road. Our safari vehicle stopped and we had ample time to take plenty of pictures before the baby finished breakfast, and they moved on. I wanted to try a close up shot to show the texture of the skin and facial features. Love the way it turned out!
