Description
The excitement was palpable as we began our first game drive on a recent trip to Africa. These adventures start very early, so our alarm was set for 4:00, but it didn't really matter because I had a hard time sleeping at all because my anticipation was so great. You see, I had wanted to do this for so long, and now it seemed that it really would happen. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in South Africa is known primarily as a habitat for rhinos, both the common white and the rarely seen black rhinos. Rhinos were, in fact, the first wildlife we saw at the beginning of the drive. I had just recovered from that thrilling experience when we came upon this beautiful elephant family right in the middle of the road as we rounded a curve. The effect of these three emerging from the early morning fog cannot be overstated. It was fabulous!
