Artist's Description
Ever since reading "Misty of Chincoteague" as a fourth grader, I have wanted to seek out the wild ponies of Chincoteague Island, Virginia. The opportunity finally came my way as my husband and I headed to the island to see if we could find them. There are only about 150 horses in several bands around the island, but it's like any other wildlife, you have to be at the right place at the right time to see them because they're always on the move. It was our last day, and we were disappointed that we had not been successful in taking any photos of the much sought after ponies. We had scheduled a boat tour of the saltwater marshlands, and our captain assured us that he would find the ponies. It took some tricky maneuvering through some shallows, but Captain Henry came through! They were beautiful, and a bonus was two new foals that were part of this band.
About Marcy Wielfaert
Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures! The Tennessee valley is my home, so I am surrounded by some of the most scenic areas of the United States with the added bonus of plentiful wildlife and birds...literally paradise for a photographer! My best days are spent in the mountains enjoying God's amazing creation and trying to capture all things nature with my camera. It gives me great joy to use this medium to share the intricacies of...
