There are more animals to see in Cades Cove than bears! The idyllic little cove in the valley, known as the heart of the Smokies, is home to a large population of black bears and visitors come from all of the world to see and photograph them. Of course, there's also other wildlife there as well, including deer, turkeys, coyotes, squirrels, and many song birds and raptors. However, another big attraction are the Cades Cove horses that are part of the park experience for those who want to take a ride on horseback or by carriage through the woods. Although these are working horses, the park administration maintains a strict schedule and limits the days and hours that the horses are being ridden. Because they work on alternate days, there are always plenty of horses who are not working that are available to see, photograph and pet in the large pasture area at the beginning of the Loop Road through the Cove. Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures!
