Description
Although they wouldn't win the prize for the most beautiful animal that I saw on a recent trip to Africa, I must admit the hippos provided much unexpected entertainment as we saw them on many different occasions, both in and out of the water. It's amazing how quickly these huge animals can move when they want to, and this was illustrated a couple of times when there were a couple of confrontations among the hippos. This big guy was spotted in the Chobe River as we enjoyed a sunset game cruise along the Chobe River in Botswana. Our guide informs us that hippos cannot swim, so when you see them moving in water, they are actually walking along the bottom. Makes sense now that we only saw them along the banks of the various rivers and never out in deep water!
