My husband and I planned a January trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, located near Estes Park, Colorado hoping to have the opportunity to take some wonderful snow pictures. We don't have very much snow at all in our home area of east Tennessee, and it seemed like our chances to photography snowy landscapes in Colorado would be fairly high during one of the coldest months of the year. The area had very little accumulation when we arrived, but near the end of our adventure, we finally did experience a blizzard and were happy to capture the white stuff with our lenses. This image was taken as it was beginning to get dark on our first day in the park. A large bull elk was foraging among the limited vegetation on a bitterly cold day trying to get something to eat. With the bare branches, patchy snow, and gray skies, I think this image conveys the general mood of January in Colorado quite well.
Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures! The Tennessee valley is my home, so I am surrounded by some of the most scenic areas of the United States with the added bonus of plentiful wildlife and birds...literally paradise for a photographer!
