Description
The Isle of Capri, just off the coast of Italy near Sorrento, was a delightful day visit on our recent tour of Italy. Full of hustle and bustle, artists, shops, incredible views, the small resort island has a lot to offer and is well worth the effort and time. The Phoenician Steps (actually built by ancient Greeks) were the only original connection from the base of Capri to the top of the island, Anacapri. In ancient times, goods and supplies had to be hand carried up the 921 stone steps until roads were constructed to reach the top. In 1952 a chair lift opened providing a convenient way to get up and down the steep terrain. Some ambitious tourists still use the steps today, but my husband and I chose the chair lift!
