Description
Each year during winter migration, over 11,000 sandhill cranes settle for a few weeks in the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge about an hour from my home in East Tennesee. I always look forward to the photo opportunities during this time because there are so many cranes converging in this area that it's not too challenging to get some great shots. This swoop of cranes was coming in late afternoon to hunt for fish in the Hiwassee River before settling down for the night.
