Description
Wild turkeys are very plentiful in Cades Cove, so I get to see them often. Sometimes they are so large that from a distance, I've confused them with bear cubs until I raise my camera and zoom in a bit, only to realize it's only a turkey. They are not much to look at on dreary days, and I generally just pass them by unless I happen to pass a male showing off in front of the hens, strutting his stuff and thinking he's something special. Generally the females are busy eating and don't even give him a look, so it's fun to watch! However, if the sun hits one of these big boys just right, they are incrediably beautiful. Their feathers are so colorful and take on an iridescent quality that almost makes them look metallic. When I see one in the sun, it's always a great photo opportunity. Such was the case with this guy, as he strutted back and forth at the peak of mating season trying to attract some attention.
