From childhood, fall has been my season. I love everything about it and look forward to that chill in the air that comes along with the amazing changes in nature, inevitably motivating me to spend more time outside. I'm thankful to live in the Tennessee Valley very close to Smoky Mountains National Park...a perfect place to savor the season. Cataloochee is about an hour's drive from home, just over the North Carolina state line. A pioneer community from days gone by is located there with several historic structures maintained by the national park service. This beautiful little church sits in the perfect spot to show off the fall colors at the edge of the woods. I was surprised to see that I loved the black and white version of this image so much! Even without those sensational fall colors, there's great contrast and depth that show so well the peaceful serenity inherent in this location.
