Artist's Description

Maybe every photographer is not drawn to old, abandoned houses and homesteads, but I find that I have a difficult time passing such a place by without stopping to investigate a bit and take at least a few shots. This house sat at the time of a hill down a long driveway, but was very visible from the road as the afternoon sun was shining on it just right. My husband says that I'm a "spotter" of old, abandoned houses, and I think he's probably right because I see them everywhere. Without exception, I find myself always wondering about the circumstances surrounding these treasures of yesterday. At one time, this home was probably someone's dream and there was a family there that shared life together. Where are they now? Why are things so run down and in such a sad state? As I return to my car, there's most often a twinge of sadness that life has moved on and left this place behind to just decay and decline and serve to make others like me wonder what happened here.

About Marcy Wielfaert

Marcy Wielfaert

Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures! The Tennessee valley is my home, so I am surrounded by some of the most scenic areas of the United States with the added bonus of plentiful wildlife and birds...literally paradise for a photographer! My best days are spent in the mountains enjoying God's amazing creation and trying to capture all things nature with my camera. It gives me great joy to use this medium to share the intricacies of...
