Artist's Description

Construction began in 1296 on the Florence Cathedral with its world renowned dome. It took 170 years to build and stands today as one of the most magnificent works in the world. Gothic architecture dominates, and includes exquisite detail in every part of the huge cathedral. This image of the facade, taken from standing centered in front of the main entrance looking directly up, is one of my favorites out of the many I took while visiting on a beautiful late spring day in May. Love the unusual coloring of this cathedral, unlike any other I've seen. There is so much to take in that it's overwhelming and almost impossible to do it justice in one visit.
