Description
Home of the historic Palio horse race held twice yearly, the city of Sienna, Italy hosts visitors from all over the world during race weeks. The origins of the Palio date back to medieval times, and it is always quite a spectacle as the horses race around the Piazza del Campo cheered on by thousands of enthusiasts, Of the seventeen contradas, or neighborhoods, within Sienna, ten are chosen each year as race participants. Each contrada has its own symbol and flag. The female wolf inursing twins in the upper part of the image is the symbol of Lupa. Underneath is the contrada flag.
