Description
Guests who visit Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park have the opportunity to tour parts of the Cove on horseback at all times of the year except winter. Several horses live in the large pasture area near the riding stables, starting their work day early each morning. On the day this photo was taken, I had hoped to catch a spectacular sunrise, but when I arrived in the Cove, intense fog had moved in the valley and visibility was extremely poor. Since I really love fog photography, I wasn't too disappointed I wouldn't be seeing my fabulous sunrise because I had some great fog to work with. Just as I started around the loop road, I saw the stable horses emerging from the fog on their was to begin their day. The was better than sunrise because I know from experience that the horses have most often already moved from pasture to stable well before the Cove opens for the day. It ended up being a great morning all the way around because the fog was so intense that it hung around well into the day making for several very interesting shots all over the Cove.
