Description
Recognized as the largest of the French chateaus scattered throughout the Loire Valley along the River Cher, Chateau Chambord is literally breathtaking. Built by King Francis I to serve as a hunting lodge, construction on the chateau was started in 1519, but was never officially finished, although work ceased after 28 years. It was occupied by the king, alternately with his other residence, the nearby Chateau Amboise. The chateau boasts over 400 rooms and 84 staircases. It combines classic French architecture and French Renaissance architecture and is a must see for anyone visiting France.
