The John Oliver cabin is the first historic structure on the Loop Road as you enter Cades Cove, a historic Appalachian community in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's very unusual to have anything in the Cove completely to yourself, but on this day in early February, I was thrilled to be all alone at John Oliver's place for about 45 minutes, so I photographed this setting from several different vantage points. This composition is my favorite of the lot, taken on the far side of the cabin with the mountains in the distance. It wasn't a particularly spectacular day weather wise, but I like the overcast skies and looming clouds with some little wisps of fog in front of the mountains.
