Description
Never have I visited a more compelling library than the one on the campus of Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. The library, which dates back to 1592, is actually shared with the University of Dublin and is housed in six different buildings. When you visit and opt to tour the Trinity campus, you see the "old library" building and primarily visit the "long room" with its impressive architecture and wood work, as well as a large collection of marble busts of famous philosophers, writers, and supporters of the college and university. The marble bust collection was started when the college purchased 14 busts by the sculptor Peter Scheemakers. Two major attractions of the library are the historic Book of Kells and an original Guttenburg Bible. If you are in Dublin and have sufficient time, I would highly recommend a tour of Trinity College and the library. Most images that I've seen of the impressive library don't include the people, but I actually think they add quite a bit to this classic image. After all, how often do you see so many visitors so excited about a library?
