Description
For the first part of this year, I was so frustrated as a wildlife photographer because I had never seen an owl nor had an opportunity to take pictures of these incredible creatures. Many of my photographer friends who frequent the same local areas as I do were finding them and getting the most wonderful images. Of course, they would report when and where and I would follow up, but the illusive owls never crossed my path. Until one day as I was wandering through Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and I noticed several people with cameras and tripods set up in front of a dead tree very close to the edge of the road. Of course I parked, grabbed my camera, and headed that way and was able to shoot my first owl. He was a little screech owl tucked back in a hole in the tree. I was thrilled, but it made me want to see more...of course! Fast forward about six months and once again I was in the Cove doing some shooting and spotted these two, way up high in a very tall tree. Because their mother flew right by me...and you know it if a big owl flies right by you...I followed her to see where she landed. She was bringing breakfast to these two sweeties! So I was able to take many, many shots with my long lens, and it almost seemed as if they were posing as they looked right at me. Yes, I also got some good shots of mom, but she wasn't nearly as charming as the twins!

And congratulations to you, Morris! Thanks for your positive comments. It means a great deal coming from someone whom I consider a bird photography expert!
