Description
On a very windy, overcast morning in September, my husband and I set out to find the famous "teacup" rock formation of Prince Edward Island. It was our 19th trip to the smallest Canadian province, but we had never seen one of the island's most well known sights. A couple of times we had tried to find it to no avail, but today would be the day! We were determined to somehow view this rock formation before it would be destroyed by wind and waves like the "elephant" rock that was now no more. We drove to Thunder Cove beach and asked a couple of people if they knew where the rock was located, but they knew nothing about it. So we decided to walk a ways to see if we could find it, but because the tide was coming in we chose to walk along the cliffs above the beach rather than along the beach itself. Having no idea as to whether or not we were headed in the right direction, we fought heavy winds but persevered until we came to a sign forbidding us to go any further. Just as we were about to tun around in defeat, we happened to see a few people ahead of us looking over the edge of the cliffs with their cameras. Could they be looking at the teacup? If they can disobey the sign, so can we. We continued into forbidden territory, and sure enough, there it was! Now considered fragile, the rock formation is something to see and does look like a teacup if you put a little imagination into play. We walked back to our car feeling happy that finally the teacup could be added to our list of PEI adventures!
