Description
One thing is certain. There's nowhere else in the world like Venice! Built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea, it has no roads, only canals. It was so difficult to even imagine how it all worked until I visited there. One thing I just had to do while there was take a gondola ride along the Grand Canal. It was so romantic gliding along and being serenaded by our gondolier as we passed by the beautiful architectural masterpieces lining the canal. This image is a classic one of the Bridge of Sighs that medieval prisoners had to cross as they walked to their certain execution. They were given one last look at the city and it is said that the bridge got its name because of the heavy sighs uttered as each one accepted his fate. I wasn't prepared to fall in love with this unique city, but I was totally in awe of this magical place!
