Description
The charming city of Mainz, Germany almost has the air of a "fairy tale" location with its distinctive half timber painted homes and rust colored sandstone buildings. Founded by the Romans in the 1st century AD as a fortress along the Rhine River, Mainz has a storied history and was the home of Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press in the 1450's. I really loved everything about Mainz. Although the population is approximately 225,000, the city maintains a smaller town feel, especially in the old town market square area. This image was taken in that location and is one of the many beautiful balconies looking out on the square. The three arched, open windows and wrought iron work are a wonderful backdrop for the vibrant flowers in full bloom. This image would make a lovely addition to any room as a decor piece, either matted and framed or as a large canvas.
