Description
As a frequent visitor to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, I have many favorite spots that I find myself returning to again and again. Sparks Lane in Cades Cove is at the top of my list, and over the years I have become fond of almost everything along this rustic lane. This old horse fence, located very near the creek about a third of the way down the lane, may seem like an unlikely favorite. I have picniked here, taken pictures of my grandkids here, meditated here, climbed over the fence to walk along the path on the other side, and watched deer, bear, coyotes, turkeys, songbirds, hawks, owls right here. This image was taken on a very warm day in late summer when the weeds were high and the goldenrod was everywhere adding a nice yellow touch to the usual greens. To everyone else, this may look like an old, rickety fence, but to me, it's comforting and beautiful.
