Description
The Cape Neddick Light is a lighthouse in Cape Neddick, York, Maine. In 1874 Congress appropriated $15,000 to build a light station at the "Nubble" and in 1879 construction began. Cape Neddick Light Station was dedicated by the U.S. Lighthouse Service and put into use in 1879. It is still in use today. My husband and I visited this site in mid September on an overcast day and were able to get several pictures of the lighthouse and surrounding area. I particularly liked this long range image that shows how the lighthouse is positioned along the rocky coast on its own little island. Visitors are not allowed to go on the island or tour the lighthouse but there are great views from several locations of the grounds. The backdrop of soft, wispy clouds adds to the dreamy feel of the late summer day, and there was a breeze in the air letting us know that fall was not far away.
