Description
The building that currently houses the Johannes Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Germany is an excellent example of Late Renaissance architectural style and dates back to 1664. The museum was not founded until 1900 and was located in different location until 1927 when it was moved to its present building, which is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Mainz. There's much more to this highlight of Mainz than a beautiful building, however. Among many other precious historical documents, printing plates, and presses, there are two copies of the Gutenberg Bible. As I viewed the front facade of the museum, I was drawn to the detail, symmetry and classic elements of the structure and found it amazing that it had been built in 1664. I love both the color version and the black and white!
