Artist's Description
On a visit to Switzerland in 2015, my husband and I toured Chateau Chillon located at the eastern end of Lake Geneva. Dating from as early as the 10th century, the castle is the most visited tourist site in the country and is certainly a must-see if you're in the vicinity. "The Prisoner of Chillon," the famous work by Lord Byron, is based on the six year imprisonment of Francois de Bonivard in the basement dungeon of the chateau. Bonivard was a Genevois monk who defended his homeland unsuccessfully from the dukes of Savoy. The interior contains three grand halls and a beautiful chapel, but perhaps the most fascinating part of the tour is the dungeon that held prisoners during the 16th century Wars of Religion. This image was taken in the Hall of Bailiffs, and I loved the doorway and window in the corner with beautiful light streaming in just at the time we were there. This photograph was digitally enhanced to add texture.
About Marcy Wielfaert

Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures! The Tennessee valley is my home, so I am surrounded by some of the most scenic areas of the United States with the added bonus of plentiful wildlife and birds...literally paradise for a photographer! My best days are spent in the mountains enjoying God's amazing creation and trying to capture all things nature with my camera. It gives me great joy to use this medium to share the intricacies of...
