Description
Located in Granada, Spain's historic fortress and palace "The Alhambra," is an impressive place to visit. It is part of the Andalusian region of Spain, in the southern region of the Iberian Peninsula. It was originally constructed as a small fortress in AD 889 on the remains of Roman fortifications, and then largely ignored until its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid-13th century. The fortress was converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada. The site became the Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492 and was where Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his expedition.
At this time the palaces were partially altered in the Renaissance style. The Moorish influence from the original construction is still prevalent and astoundingly beautiful. Intricate detail and rich colors are woven into the overall design and add such an interesting and somewhat unusual dimension to the complex.
