Description
As part of Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Peninsula is often unlooked by visitors because it is not as well known and takes a little extra time and effort to visit. My husband and I had heard that this site would be one of the best to capture crashing waves along the rocky shore and beautiful sunsets. We headed to Schoodic on one of our last nights in Maine to catch what was supposed to be an ideal evening for a classic sunset, but nature had other ideas. As we reached the peninsula, it was truly idyllic with the sun sinking in the sky and that perfect golden light settling in on the scenery. We were anxious to find the perfect spot, set up our tripods, and get started. However, within a very short time, a huge storm began to move in, fog appeared, and the skies were dark and threatening. This image was taken when fog first moved in and we realized that our beautiful sunset wasn't going to happen. We soon saw everyone clearing the area and heading for their cars, but decided to put on our coats with hoods, grab our tripods and head out on the rocks to see if we could photograph the scene.
Yes, we got wet, but it was fabulous! The crashing of the waves was a sight to behold and we rode the storm surge until we were satisfied that we had captured the scene. As everyone already knows, the beauty of nature is not limited to sunrises and sunsets, but includes so many more wonderful and amazing for those who are willing get a little wet and wind blown!
