Description
Sitting high on Castle Rock and overlooking the city, Edinburgh Castle is the most visited tourist site in Scotland. It sprawls out along the ridge of the rocky mountain and is comprised of several buildings. Although archaeologists have found evidence that humans inhabited this site as early as the Iron Age, the parts of the present castle date back only to the 12th century. Geographically, this castle is unique to others in the United Kingdom as it sits on an extinct volcano. This image was taken from far below, looking up at the castle from the city of Edinburgh. The overcast cloudy sky with a few peeks of sun just about perfect to achieve the desired result on this typical July day in Scotland. My original photograph has been digitally enhanced to achieve a painterly presentation.

Wow! Those wonderfully dark and foreboding clouds make this such an imposing image! A gorgeous capture, Marcy. It's amazing how people could build something this beautiful in such rough terrain back then!!
