Description
Certainly a highlight of our trip to Switzerland was visiting Chateau Chillion, located at the eastern end of Lake Geneva. First construction efforts of the chateau date back to the 10th century. This image shows the private chapel of the dukes of Savoy which was one of the earliest constructed aspects of this famous castle. It was abandoned during the Reformation and turned into a granary and then restored to its original function in the 19th century and was used by prisoners within the château. The Château de Chillon is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions and, even from a brief visit, it is easy to see why. Reached along a lakeside promenade from Montreux, the château soon comes into view, jutting out from the shore on strong rock foundations above the water.
