At the heart of the French medieval village of Vezelay, a Roman Catholic Abbey sits high on a hilltop. The abbey is a pilgrimage site, just as it has been for hundreds of years, and still attracts dedicated souls from all over the world who come here to absolve their sins and receive penance. The adjoining church and abbey are considered a masterpiece of Bungundian Romanesque art and architecture. I liked this area set aside for visitors to light candles and pray with its old textured wall and recessed archway.
