Description
One of the historic jewels of the famous Italian town of Amalfi is the Roman Catholic cathedral that has its origins as far back as the ninth century. Due to many renovations and additions through the years, the cathedral has elements of several different types of architectural styles, including Arab-Norman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. Its lovely bell tower, reaching toward the heavens and rising above the city, is Romanesque, adding yet another type of architecture. Much of the cathedral, and the top portion of the bell tower, utilizes local tiles, which add an unusual element of color to the church. I would highly recommend a visit to the cathedral while checking out Amalfi, one of the charming villages along the world famous Amalfi coastal drive.
