Description
It seems that most often in our area, once a farmstead is no longer used as a working farm, the buildings are sadly left to just rot and deteriorate until they get so weak and worn that one day a strong wind will take them down. However, since becoming a photographer, I have developed a new appreciation of such places and see artistic beauty in many of them. That was the case when I happened by this huge abandoned dairy farm very close to my home recently. The sky was dramatic, with some nice light piercing through the clouds, and as it shone on the rusty, tin roof of the barn, I liked the patina adding a nice pop of red. To complete the picture, the old silo had become a spot showcasing the new life of spring as vibrant, green new growth trailed up the side of the unused structure. It did occur to me as I stood there composing this image that perhaps I was the only one that would see beauty here, but the thought didn't stop me from completing my mission.
