Description
As we watched a mama, dad, and one week old baby elephant cross the crocodile filled Chobe River from the safety of our boat, the safari guide warned us that we might witness an unpleasant scene. The baby was in jeopardy of being caught by crocodiles as he crossed the river for the first time, and the guide felt it necessary to prepare us for that possibility. It was as if the entire boat full of people was holding their breath as we watched in trepidation of the worst ending to our day. Much of the time all we could see was a tiny trunk rising above the water between his dad and mom. Once the elephant family began to emerge and walk in the shallow water along the shore, a cheer erupted from the boat load of onlookers. A sigh of relief was heard because little guy had made it!
