Description
Ronda is a very interesting and scenic city located in the Andelusia region of southern Spain. It has a storied history and is touted as being the home of the origin of modern bullfighting. The Puente Nuevo, or new bridge, spans the 390 chasm of the Guadelevin River that cuts through the city. It is actually the second bridge to be built in this spot after the first one collapsed killing 50 people. Construction began in 1751 and it took 34 years to build. An interesting aspect of the bridge is the prison area in the bridge's center that has been used both as a prison and as a torture chamber during the Spanish Civil War.
