Cirsium is a genus of perennial and biennial flowering plants in the Asteraceae, one of several genera known commonly as thistles. They are more commonly called as plume thistles and are known for their effusive flower heads, usually purple, rose or pink, but also yellow or white. The radially symmetrical disc flowers are at the end of the branches and are visited by many kinds of insects, featuring who provide pollination proliferation. They have erect stems and prickly leaves, with a characteristic enlarged base of the flower which is commonly spiny. While visiting Montana in the middle of summer, I saw these often, and was actually surprised at how beautiful the blooms were when the light caught them just right.
Simply put, I LOVE TO TAKE PICTURES. I found this love later in life than many do, after raising my family and enjoying a career in education, both as a teacher and school administrator. Currently, much of my time revolves around travel and photography, and when I'm not traveling and taking pictures, I'm thinking about traveling and taking pictures! The Tennessee valley is my home, so I am surrounded by some of the most scenic areas of the United States with the added bonus of plentiful wildlife and birds...literally paradise for a photographer!
