I have photographed many, many bears in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but this little guy is the tiniest cub I have ever seen and had the opportunity to photograph. As much as I enjoyed seeing this tiny cub, I was holding my breath the entire time because he/she was about 50 feet up in the tree, and I was so afraid he was going to fall. Unfortunately, many cubs die each year in falls from trees, and I certainly didn't want to witness such a tragedy. His mama was lying at the base of the tree nursing a sibling while this adventurer was exploring the heights. After a few minutes and several shots, I left...

Thanks. I loved seeing this little guy, but couldn't hang around because I was so afraid he was going to fall! Little ones die every year due to falls from trees, and he was so tiny and up so high...
