Description
Athens is one of the oldest named cities in the world, having been continuously inhabited for at least 5000 years. Situated in southern Europe, Athens became the leading city of Ancient Greece in the first millennium BC, and its cultural achievements during the 5th century BC laid the foundations of Western civilization. During our time there, my husband and I enjoyed a walk through areas of the old city with its little cafes, shops, and residences. Although very charming and quaint, Athens shows signs of the recent economic difficulties with much disrepair and neglect. On the other hand, there are also visible signs that things are now looking up for the Athenians after a twelve year recovery effort. This image offers a glimpse of old city living captured on an early spring day.
