Description
The seasons come and go in the mountains, and I'm not talking about spring, summer, fall, and winter. I'm referring to cub season, wildflower season, bear mating season, blackberry season, and rhododendron season! These are the natural occurrences that mark our lives here in the Smoky Mountains of east Tennessee...and each one has its own aura of excitement! June is rhododendron season and photographers flock to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to capture the beautifully exquisite blooms of this mountains flora. Usually found by the banks of streams in the woods, it can be a challenge to get them in just the right light, but I lucked out on this one as a shaft of perfect morning sunshine landed right on this opening bud as I came on the scene. I didn't realize that there was a "bonus bug" on the flower until later when I looked at the image on my computer. I briefly thought about removing it from the photo, but then decided I liked it better with the added dimension.
